# Keyword density

> Keyword density describes how often the words a page targets appear in its text. Here it means whether the words from the title also show up in the content.

## Why it matters

Google penalizes keyword stuffing - artificially repeating keywords. A natural density of 1-3% is optimal. Modern search engines use semantic understanding, so synonyms and related terms are equally important.

## In practice

The old SEO approach of 'cheap shoes, shoes cheap, buy cheap shoes' is penalized today. The Google Panda update in 2011 started penalizing keyword stuffing. Quality content uses keywords naturally in context.

## How be1st checks it

Checks whether the keywords from the title tag also appear in the page text. The check takes the title words longer than 3 characters and counts how many of them occur in the content: at least half means the check passes. It is a simple relevance signal, not a density percentage.

Every check ends as: Pass, Warning, Fail.
